Meet my Main Character by Philippa Jane Keyworth

I’ve been tagged by Rosanne E. Lortz in her post on her main character Harold Emison, Earl of Anglesford, and now it is my pleasure to introduce you to my main character in my next book, The Unexpected Earl. Instead of introducing you to my heroine, who I’ve spoken about on the blog already, I thought it would be cool to introduce you to my hero 🙂 So here goes…

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

My main character is Earl Lucius Wolversley. He is fictional, tall, dark haired and has a dry sense of humour.

2) When and where is the story set?

The story is set in Regency England and takes place mostly in London during the society Season.

3) What should we know about him/her?

Lucius Wolversley’s father died when he was young and so he and his sister were put under the care of their uncle who also maintained control of the estate until Wolversley reached twenty-one. Wolversley was engaged to Julia Rotherham before he went to study at Eton but jilted her soon after for reasons he never explains.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

Avoiding Julia has been easy as Wolverlsey dislikes society and spends most of his time on his country estates, however, his friend Lord Courtenay thinks the serious Wolversley should be having more fun leading inadvertently to the Earl coming face-to-face, most unexpectedly, with his childhood love. Secrets are hidden just beneath the surface, emotions are running high and although Wolversley knows he should run, he can’t help but find out just what sort of woman Julia has grown into.

5) What is the personal goal of the character?

Wolversley’s goal is to keep the secrets from the past hidden and avoid Julia, but it’s getting hard for him to hide the truth…

6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

The title of the novel is The Unexpected Earl and you can read more about it under the tab at the top of this web-page with the same title.

7) When can we expect the book to be published?

The book is coming out in September 2014 which is very exciting – in the mean time I’m writing other things and would like to do some introductions to more main characters in the future!

Thanks for visiting the post!

Philippa Jane Keyworth, known to her friends as Pip, has been writing since she was twelve in every notebook she could find. Originally trained as a horse-riding instructor, Philippa went on to become a copywriter before beginning a degree in History. A born again Christian, Philippa lives in the south of England with her handsome husband. Philippa has always written stories and believes that, since it is one of her loves and passions, she always will. In her early writing career, she dabbled in a variety of genres, but it was the encouragement of a friend to watch a film adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice that began her love affair with the British Regency. Since then, she has watched every Regency film and TV series she could get her hands on and become well acquainted with Georgette Heyer's novels which gave her the inspiration to write her own. Both as a reader and a writer, Philippa believes it is important to escape into a world you yourself would want to live in. This is why she writes stories that will draw you into the characters' joys and heartaches in a world apart from our own. Her debut novel, The Widow's Redeemer (Madison Street Publishing, 2012), is a traditional Regency romance bringing to life the romance between a young widow with an indomitable spirit and a wealthy viscount with an unsavory reputation. The novel has been received well by readers and reviewers who have praised the heartfelt story and admirable characters. Her second novel, The Unexpected Earl (Madison Street Publishing, 2014), explores another romance in the Regency era when an impetuous young woman has her life turned upside down by the reappearance of the earl who jilted her six years ago. So, what are you waiting for? Get swept away into another time with characters you will learn to love, and experience the British Regency like never before.

  1. Thanks for the introduction. I am eager to see these secrets exposed.

I read the excerpt you posted which mentioned Lord Courtenay. Any plans for his story in the near future?

  2. Story sounds exciting and the characters engaging! Reminds me, plot-wise, of Jane Austen’s Persuasion – which is my all-time favorite book, next to Jane Eyre. I therefore adore stories about old loves rekindled. Can’t wait till it’s out!

  3. Quite a read! Really engaging premise and I like how it mirrors Persuasion! I have found the best plots are inspired by Austen and Bronte novels. Fabulous job!
